AHDB Dairy is confirming that the August EU weighted average milk price stood at €29.56/100kg (21.72ppl), down €0.14/100kg (0.5%) on the previous month.
Compared with the previous year, the weighted average EU price for August was down €7.36/100kg (19.9%), this was a decrease on the year of 8.60ppl.
The average UK farmgate price in August stood at €31.65/100kg (23.25ppl), which was the sixth highest price of any nation in the EU15 after Greece, Finland, France, Italy and Austria.
The EU15 weighted average price stood at €30.18/100kg (22.17ppl) in August, €0.10/100kg (0.3%) down on July, and was €7.73/100kg (20.4%) lower than the August 2014 average.
Looking at the top-five milk producing countries for this month (Germany, France, UK, Netherlands and Poland), the average August price was €29.39/100kg which was a €0.19/100kg (0.6%) decrease compared with the previous month.
Meanwhile, on the feed input side, international wheat prices continued to gain over the past week, as early new crop concerns persist. Chicago wheat futures (Dec-15) have gained over $8/t since Tuesday 29 September, and closed at $193.34/t on 6 October.
UK feed wheat futures prices followed, though to a lesser extent.
