Spring lamb numbers increased to 200 head on Tuesday evening at Rathfriland and sold in a similar trade to the previous week.

Hoggets sold to £88 for 29k from Dromara. Fat ewes sold to £89 from Drumlee.

The last dairy sale for several months saw just short of 60 head sell to 2180gns.

Trade for the quality lots was excellent. The Annalong herd averaged 2000gns for freshly calved pedigree heifers. Lot 78 was purchased by a Co. Armagh dairy farmer at 2180gns with lot 79 at £2150gns sold to the same purchaser. Lot 80, a similar animal sold @ 2050gns to another Co. Armagh dairy farmer.

The Inch herd offered 18 animals to reach 1780gns for lot 33 with lot 36 at 1650gns. Non Pedigree calved heifers sold to £1520 for the Inch herd. Swiss red bred heifers sold to £1350 with Pedigree Jerseys to 1300gns from the Braque herd. 2nd and 3rd calvers from the Tanvally hers reached £1200.

What could only be described as a glistening trade for all classes of cattle was seen on Friday. Bullocks sold to £702 over their weight for a 588k Ch @ £1290 from Kilkeel with others to 288p/k. Weanling calves sold to 307p/k for a 228k Lim male @ £700. A Castlewellan farmer sold a 198k Lim heifer @ £550 or 304p/k. A Rathfriland farmer sold 22 Sim and Ch calves to average £893 each at 11 months old. Only 12 weanling calves sold at under £2.00 per kilo. Store heifers cleared up to 241p for a 276k Lim @ £665 from Warrenpoint. Breeding Her bulls cleared up to 1380GNS from a Ballynahinch farm. A much larger entry of fat cows sold to 166p/k (twice) for a 592k Lim @ £980 for a Ballyward farmer and a 556k DAQ from Jerrettspass @ £920. 110 dropped calves sold to £460 for a BB bull from Upper Ballinderry. A Crossmaglen farmer sold a Ch bull calf @ £440 and a Ballynahinch farmer a BB bull @ £415.
