The annual sale of Suffolk Cheviot hoggets at Ballymena Mart on Saturday, 6th August met one of the finest trades ever recorded with hogget averages up by £25 to level at £157 per head for 2280 sold. Quality Suffolk Cheviot lots were particularly in demand and sold to the high top of £340per head paid to Diane Gibson Mallusk for her first pen which earlier had been placed first in a show organized by the Suffolk Sheep Society. Texel X hoggets sold to £165per head paid to N McGarrigle also for his placed pen in the Texel show. A much larger entry in the lamb ring saw quality lots sell to £142 per head for a tremendous pen of Suffolk Cheviot lambs offered by L Anderson Kilwaughter but plainer types were difficult to clear.
