CELT (Centre for Environmental Living & Training) are providing another amazing event of traditional and ecological skills training – Weekend in the Hills – on 26th/27th September at the scenic Slieve Aughty Centre, Kylebrack West, Loughrea, Co Galway.
Participants will be able to choose one from up to 17 different skills workshops for the two days – courses on offer for adults (age 14 plus) include wood carving, forge building (and knife making), coppersmithing, silversmithing, longbow making, leather work, Súgán chair making, basketry, straw crafts, needle felting, herb lore, dry-stone walling (and introduction to lime mortar), stone carving, spinning and weaving (and natural dyeing), traditional felting, natural building. Also, for 8–14 yrs, there is adventure bushcraft or earth-oven building.
A range of accommodation (ensuite, eco-cabin, camping) is available on site along with top quality food (in the Three Towers Restaurant – and refreshments/snacks in the café). Apart from the workshops, there will also be activities for casual visitors (€5 per person) including guided walks and pony-trekking through the Enchanted Forest, face painting and crafts, playground, animals and gift shop.
On the Saturday evening it is planned to have traditional music and singing around the campfire and fresh-cooked pizzas from the clay oven.
