The Livestock & Meat Commission for Northern Ireland (LMC) is proud to sponsor the Farming Life & Danske Bank “FQAS Farmer of the Year” Award 2015, for the fourth year running.
The FQAS Farmer of the Year award is just one of a number of categories in the fifth annual Farming Life and Danske Bank awards.
As well as a number of awards recognising Northern Ireland’s primary producers, there is also a range of business awards and special recognition categories.
An additional category this year is the Farm SAFE Award, sponsored by the Farm Safety Partnership.
The Northern Ireland Beef and Lamb Farm Quality Assurance Scheme (FQAS) has been owned and managed by LMC on behalf of the NI Beef and Sheep meat industry for over two decades. Over 11,800 farmers participate in the scheme, and with a high percentage of cattle and sheep presented for slaughter by Northern Ireland farmers now qualifying for FQAS status, it gives meat processors participating in the assurance chain an opportunity to access premium markets for our beef and lamb at home and abroad. The ‘steers head’ logo associated with FQAS status can be seen widely on beef and lamb products for sale to consumers throughout Northern Ireland.
FQAS was set up to give consumers’ assurances about the farm end of the production chain with three key pillars: food safety, animal welfare and care for the environment. FQAS assures the consumer that Farm Quality Assured beef and lamb has been produced on farms certified as operating to designated assurance standards including their quality of care for animals and the farm environment, their freedom from use of unnatural substances and their compliance with legislation.
This award offers recognition to those farmers who embrace the scheme, demonstrate a high level of compliance with the standard, use the scheme to advantage their businesses and, through their working practices to fulfil the standard, stand out from their competitors.
