An entry of 250 cattle at Markethill on Tuesday 6th January sold in a steady trade.

Dairy stock sold to £1330 for a calved heifer from a Stewartstown farmer. The same owner received £1200 and £1180 for calved heifers. A Mayobridge farmer received £1260, £1230 and £1220. Several more from £1000 to £1100 each.

CULL COWS

The 105 lots in the fat ring returned another good demand. Clean cattle to £190 for 620k at £1175 and to £1280 each for 680k (188). Friesians to £150 for 640k at £960. Fleshed cows to £145 for 600k at £870. Main demand from £120 to £135 per 100 kilos. Fleshed friesians to £116 for 620k at £720. Main demand from £94 to £103 per 100 kilos. Second quality friesians from £75 to £85 per 100 kilos and the poorest lots selling readily from £55 to £70 per 100 kilos.

CALVES

The 130 calves returned a very firm trade with good quality bulls to £380 for a blue. Main demand from £220 to £355. Strong Friesian bulls (8 to 12 weeks) sold from £110 to £165. Younger lots from £55 to £88 each. Heifer calves in excellent demand to £340 for a blue. All good quality lots from £230 to £355 for an Angus.
