An entry of 500 cattle at Markethill this week returned an exceptionally good trade for store cattle and weanlings with calves and cull cows in steady demand.

On Saturday 10th January entry of 250 store cattle and weanlings met a significantly firmer trade to a packed ringside of buyers for throughout NI and to export agents for GB.

Middleweight heifers to £231 for 480k at £1110. Forward heifers to £232 for 550k Hereford at £1280. All good quality heifers sold from £200 to £227 per 100 kilos with 2nd quality lots from £180 to £190 per 100 kilos. In all the 100 store heifers sold averaged £202 per 100 kilos.

Forward Friesians in excellent demand from £160 to £181 for 580k at £1050. Middleweight bullocks sold from £200 to £227 for 450k at £1020. Middleweight Friesians from £150 to £177 for 490k at £870.

The 110 cull cows returned an excellent trade with 1st quality cows to £162 for 850k at £1380. Main demand from £120 to £159 per 100 kilos. Fleshed Friesian cows in improved demand from £100 to £117 for 600k at £700. Second quality Friesians from £85 to £95 per 100 kilos and the poorest from £60 to £75 per 100 kilos. Clean Friesian cattle from £150 to £161 for 740k at £1190 for a Cookstown farmer.
