An entry of 804 store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Markethill on Saturday 7th March continued to sell in a very firm trade.

The quality of store cattle and weanlings on offer was exceptionally high.

BULLOCKS

The 330 store bullocks sold in a very strong demand with several export buyers in attendance together with buyers from throughout Northern Ireland.

Forward bullocks to £226 for 500k at £1135 followed by £223 for 500k at £1120. Main demand from £200 to £220 per 100 kilos. Forward friesians to £182 for 620k at £1130. Main demand from £150 to £177 per 100 kilos.

Good quality middleweights from £200 to £247 per 100 kilos with a top of £253 for 390k at £1000. Middleweight friesians to £181 for 450k at £815. All good types from £150 to £178 per 100 kilos.

Dairy stock sold to £1620 at Markethill on Tuesday paid for a calved heifer from a Loughgall farmer. A Kilkeel farmer sold 3 calved heifers at £1460, £1300 and £1260. A Newry producer received £1110 for a calved heifers.

CULL COWS

The 130 cull cows maintained their recent trade. Beef bred cows from £120 to £140 for 590k at £825 and up to £1050 for 800k (130). Young friesians to £159 for 588k at £935. Others from £140 to £154 per 100 kilos. Friesian cows to 3127 for 668k at £850. All fleshed friesians from £105 to £121 for 670k at £815. Second quality friesians from £85 to £100 per 100 kilos with the poorest types selling readily from £65 to £80 per 100 kilos.
