An entry of 1800 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 9th September returned a firmer trade for fat lambs and stores. Breeding sheep were slower to sell.

Heavy lambs sold to £74 each paid three times with several pens selling from £68 to £71 each. Main demand sold from 265p to 282p per kilo.

Middleweight lambs sold to 334p per kilo for 23.5 kilos at £78.50 each. Main demand sold from 280p to 325p per kilo for 26lambs weighing 20 kilos at £65 each.

Light store lambs sold to 408p per kilo for 12.2 kilos at £50 each (22 lambs). All good quality pens sold from 330p to 375p per kilo for 15 kilos at £56.50 each. Stronger stores sold from 300p to 334p per kilo for 18.4 kilos at £61.50 each.

The 200 cull ewes sold to £108 each. All heavy ewes sold from £65 to £85 each.

A full yard of breeding sheep sold in an easier trade. Top price was £130 with others from £105 to £128 each.
