An entry of 2300 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday 16th September returned a very good trade for store lambs, cull ewes and breeding sheep. Fat lamb prices were slightly easier. There were 1950 lambs on offer.
Heavy lambs sold from £65 to £69.50 each with a few pens selling to £71. Top rate of 296p per kilo was paid for 24 kilos at £71 each. Several quality pens sold from 265p to 283p per kilo.
Middleweight lambs sold to 321p per kilo for 21.5 kilos at £69 each. All good quality pens sold from 285p to 311p per kilo.
Store lambs sold in another excellent trade with sellers from throughout Northern Ireland in attendance. Light stores sold to 389p per kilo for 14.1 kilos at £55 each followed by 380p for 13 kilos at £50 each. Main demand sold from 320p to 370p per kilo. Stronger pens sold from 300p to 329p per kilo for 20 lambs weighing 18.1 kilos at £59.50 each for a Draperstown farmer .
The 200 cull ewes sold from £60 to £77 each with seconds from £40 to £55 each.
Breeding ewes sold in a much stronger trade with prices increased by up to £20 per head over the week. Top price was £156 with several pens from £120 to £142 each. Rams sold from £200 to £340 each.
