An entry of 420 cattle at Markethill on Tuesday 6th October returned an easier trade for cull cows and a very firm trade for dropped calves and reared calves.

CULL COWS: The 205 cull cows sold in an easier trade. Beef-bred cows sold from £120 to £138 per 100 kilos and up to £1040 for 800k (130). Fleshed Friesians sold from £90 to £103 per 100 kilos and up to £765 for 750k. Second quality Friesians from £70 to £85 per 100 kilos with the poorest cows from £40 to £65 per 100 kilos.

Dairy stock sold to £1080 paid twice for calved heifers. Others sold at £1070, £1000 and £900. Cows to £900 each for two 3rd calvers.

CALVES: The 200 lots in calf ring returned an excellent trade. Bull calves to £355 for two week old Lim. Main demand from £240 to £330 each. Young Friesian bulls from £55 to £92 each. Heifer calves sold to £330 each for a three week old whitehead. All good heifers from £190 to £295 each. Reared bull calves sold to £600 each with several more from £450 to £570 each. Heifers to £495 each with several more from £370 to £470 each.
