An entry of 600 store cattle, weanlings and sucklers at Markethill on Saturday 10th October continued to sell in a very firm trade for all lots.

HEIFERS

The 225 store heifers sold readily with good quality middleweights to £211 for 438k at £925. Main demand from £190 to £207 per 100 kilos. Forward heifers from £190 to £200 for 602k at £1205. Lightweight heifers sold in an excellent demand from £200 to £231 for 344k at £795 from a Lisburn farmer. Second quality heifers sold in a very good demand from £170 to £180 per 100 kilos.

Beef bred cows to £139 for 628k at £870. Main demand from £116 to £127 per 100 kilos. Fleshed Friesian cows sold from £94 to £103 for 716k at £740. To priced Friesian £820 from £808k (102). Second quality Friesians from £70 to £85 per 100 kilos and the poorest lots from £50 to £67 per 100 kilos. Aged bulls sold from £88 to £108 and up to £1130 for 1100k (103).

The 150 lots in the calf ring maintained an excellent trade for all types. Bull calves sold to £460 for a four week old Lim followed by £395 for a three week old Simm. Main demand from £250 to £375 each. Heifer calves sold to £285 for a three week old Simm. All good quality heifer calves from £180 to £250 each. Young Friesian bulls sold from £40 to £85 each. Stronger Friesians sold in an excellent trade from £140 to £230.
