An entry of 725 cattle at Markethill on Saturday 14th November, sold in a very firm demand for good quality stock.

Highlight of the sale was the exceptionally strong demand for in-calf sucklers which sold to £1660 each.

BULLOCKS

The 240 store bullocks sold readily with middleweights from £190 to £211 for 444k at £935. Lightweights from £200 to £232 for 366k at £850 followed by £229 for 352k at £805. Good quality forward bullocks to £203 for 558k at £1130 and up to £1250 for 650k Angus. Main demand from £180 to £196 per 100 kilos. Good quality Friesian steers from £125 to £141 per 100 kilos with a top of £151 for 480k at £725.

The 70 lots of sucklers returned an exceptionally strong demand. A Newry farmer received £1660, £1520, £1480 and £1420 for in-calf heifers. A Killeavy farmer sold in-calf heifers at £1440, £1300 and £1280. Several more lots from £1000 to £1280 each. Cow and calves to £1380 each with others from £1000 to £1250 each.
