MARTS: Markethill (Christmas show and sale)

An entry of 65 cattle at Markethill’s Christmas Show and Sale returned a very satisfactory trade.

Local butchers and factory buyers were well represented and were well satisfied with the quality of stock on offer.

Mr Alister Graham from Tandragee was the judge at the event. Fane Valley Stores were the sponsors of the show.

The beef champion, a bullock from Wm. Herdman from Dromore weighed 740 kilos and sold at £1660 to The Meat Joint butchers in Antrim.

The Reserve Champion, a Belgian Blue heifer from Malachy McGrath, Downpatrick weighed 690 kilos and sold at £2150 to Mr. John McAlister, Bonnybridge, Stirling, Scotland.

The Butchers Choice a Blue Heifer from Owen Carragher Cullyhanna, weighed 600 kilos and sold at £1800 to Parkes Butchers, Newtownhamilton.

The first place store animal, from Clive Richardson Annaghmore weighed 570 kilos and was kindly donated to the chosen charities . It subsequently sold at £1550 to Brian McGeough Kilmore.

A total of £6600 – was raised for the chosen charities, NI Childrens Hospice and Macmillan.
