Friday’s cattle sale was the second sale of cattle this week following the suckler sale on Monday evening.

Suckler calves sold to £1010 with a batch of 7 Ch bulls from Ballyroney averaging £1000 each. Another big entry on Friday saw suckler cows sell to £1290 for a Kilkeel farmer with 2 springing Lim heifers at £1280 and £1200 from Dromara. Fat cows sold to £1035 for a Ballydrummond farmer. A Kilkeel farmer topped the bullocks at £1255. Ringbane farmer: 2 Ch bullocks at £1145 and £1120. A Ballyward farmer: Lim bullock at £1120. Bigger entries of heifers saw a Maze farmer top the sale at £1195 and a Bryansford farmer: 570k at £1020. Weanling sold to £970 for bullocks and to £800 twice for heifers from Ballybrick and Loughorne farmers. Dropped calves were a flying trade to £400 for a Carricknadariff farmer. Young male calves sold to £490 for a Co. Armagh farmer. Banbridge farmer: £480 (twice) and £470 for 3 Sim heifers.

SUCKLER SALE

There was another good trade for sucklers on Monday evening. The stock was very suitable with good quality animals fetching £500 over £1.00 per kilo. Ballyward farmer: 348k at £850, 388k at £800 and 358k at £790. Clanmaghery farmer: £420k at £900, 438 at £925, 354k at £835, 330k at £810, 328k at £815, 348k at £785, 258k at £670 etc. Kilcoo farmer: 312k at £765 and 226k at £555. Dromara farmer: 32 DAQ and Lim 332k at £730, 254k at £635, 268k at £630, 300k at £645, 350k at £730, 234k at £525 and 256k at £565 etc.

Over 1400 sheep on Tuesday evening saw 1311 lambs sell in a slightly lighter trade. A Dromara farmer topped the sale at £75 followed closely by a Hilltown farmer with 12 lambs, 25k at £74. A Kilcoo farmer: sold 2 lots of 26k at £73 and £71.50 each. Enagh farmer: 27.5k at £72.50. Poyntzpass farmer: 25 lambs, 27.5k at £70. Dollys Brae farmer: 26 lambs 27k at £70.50. Ballynahinch farmer: 18k at £57.50. Leitrim farmer: 17k at £56. Enagh farmer: 16k at £53.
