Mullan Texels claim Fane Valley champion title

The Northern Ireland Texel Club returned to Markethill recently, establishing the sale in the Texel calendar for the second year.

The club show and sale was kindly sponsored by Fane Valley Co-Op and judge for the evening was Adrian Liggett, Corbo Texels, Omagh.

Mr Liggett made his first choice and Fane Valley Reserve Champion in the Shearling Ram category from Sam Gordon’s Lindstair pen. He was a Teiglium Troy son out of a Cowal Powerhouse dam.

Second place went to Robert Boyd, Newry for his Sheepbridge entry. This Tullyear Uhuru out of a McBride Pacemaker mother later sold for £294. Third place was claimed by Andrew Hutchinson, Newtownbutler for Gorteen VW, purchased from Charles and David Seaman as a ram lamb. He is a Glenside Razzle Dazzle son out of a Ballynahone Rissoto ewe.

Catching the judge’s eye was the Hanthorn family’s Mullan pen, taking first place in the ram lamb class and later the Fane Valley Co-Op Champion.

From the same family as the reserve champion at Markethill last year this Oberstown Usain Bolt son out of a Douganhill McFly mother sold to the top price of the evening for £472.50. Also from the same pen, the Hanthorn family, Tynan, Armagh saw the champion’s pen mate realise £420 for another Oberstown Usain Bolt out of a Mullan Supremacy daughter who was the Armagh Show Champion 2014.

The judge’s second place rosette in the ram lamb class went to Peter Boyd, Ballyclare for his Poseyhill exhibit. A Glenside Veegee son out of a Lindstair Nic Nak mother he later changed hands for £346.50. Robert Mulligan, Banbridge claimed the third place rosette for his Ettrick U Tube son out of a Blackstown Sportsmans daughter, who later sold for £231.

Trade for 22 Pedigree Texels saw averages to £281.50.
