This Christmas Musgrave Retail Partners (MRPNI) will be serving up 400,000 Brussels sprouts to Northern Ireland consumers thanks to its partnership with Co. Armagh supplier Derrykeeran Nurseries.
As one of the top sprout farmers in Northern Ireland, Derrykeeran Nurseries will supply the home-grown vegetable, which is an important addition to many festive dinner tables, to all SuperValu, Centra and Mace stores.
Fresh Produce Trading Manager of MRPNI, Aiden Kearney, said: “We’re delighted to continue our work with Derrykeeran Nurseries who have been supplying MRPNI for almost 20 years.
“We expect to sell in the region of 400,000 sprouts across our stores with 50% of sales taking place over the two week Christmas period.
“We are committed to bringing the highest quality fresh produce to consumers and sourcing in Northern Ireland allows us to do this. We are very proud of our relationship with suppliers such as Derrykeeran Nurseries who are one of over 250 local suppliers we use across our business,” he added.
Pat Smith of supplier Derrykeeran Nurseries said: “My family has been farming Brussels sprouts for three generations and I have been involved in the business for 24 years. Christmas is always our busiest time and this year has been particularly good for our harvest as the weather has been so good.
“I am delighted to be working with companies such as Musgrave as they have a strong focus on fresh, local produce and it is great to know that our hard work will be enjoyed by so many across Northern Ireland on Christmas Day and throughout the festive period,” he added.
