A new centre record was the highlight of the Shropshire and Borders Texel Breeders Club in-lamb sale at Welshpool on Thursday (18 December), with prices hitting a high of 3500gns.
Taking the day’s top call was an in-lamb shearling ewe from the Bennett family’s Plasucha flock, with this being BFE1303070. Sired by Connachan Sharky she is out of a dam by Penparc Nobleman and sold carrying to Garngour Upperclass. She sold to Stephen Cobbald, Acton, Suffolk, for the Lavenham flock.
Second top call of the day was a 2600gns call for another from the same home, a full ET sister to the sale topper. This one sold in-lamb to Plasucha Va Va Voom and sold to an undisclosed Northern Irish buyer.
Then making the next best price of 1700gns was James Ruggeri’s gimmer from the Gyrhos flock, RUJ1300277. This daughter of the homebred Gyrhos Rambo is out of a dam by Orrisdale Paradise and goes back to Baltier Jaguar. She sold in-lamb to Glenside Vernon and was bought by J N and M J Ellis.
Selling at 1200gns was another from the Gyrhos flock, RUJ1300278, a full ET sister to the 1700gns gimmer and again in-lamb to Vernon. She was the pick of D Jones, Llanfair, Ceredigion.
And following her at 1000gns was a shearling from the Pierce family’s Oldford flock. Sired by Sportsmans Tremendous II this one, PRE1300315, is out of a dan by Connachan Rhino and sold in-lamb to Anglezarke Uno. Buying her was G R Williams, Ferm, Sennybridge.
A 750gns call saw the Gibbs family sell their best of the evening when G Symonds, bought their gimmer from the Bettonfield flock, GEB1300507. Sired by Stainton Rockstar she is out of a dam by Claybury Performer and sold in-lamb to Cambwell UK.
The Draper family’s Claybury flock then trade at 720gns when selling DHL1300697, a Mellor Vale Tomahawk daughter out of a dam by Garngour Nijinsky. She sold in-lamb to Cosyn Texels Viking and was bought by G P Williams, Dolwen Clywd.
Averages; 69 shearling ewes £521.50, eight older ewes £317.63, three ewe lambs £262.50 (Welshpool Livestock Sales).
