Following a hugely successful season of Northway’s Northway Grown Strawberries, the Northway team and their six, local, expert strawberry growers are already planning to expand their production in 2016 to accommodate growing customer and consumer demand.

As the season approaches an end, with approximately just five more weeks of summer strawberries left, the Northway team would like to thank all of their customers for their support of the local family farm community this summer by choosing Northway Grown Strawberries.

Northway is a producer organisation based in Blackwatertown, established specifically to support the work and effort of local family farms by improving quality and efficiencies, shortening the supply chain and getting fresh, local produce direct to market quicker. Northway members rely on the continued support of retailers that understand and appreciate the difference of fresh local produce and make the commitment to stock local produce during local season. During the current season, Northway was lucky to work with some of Northern Ireland’s best, fresh food and vegetable departments – each of which whom chose to stock local produce over imports where possible during season.

Speaking of the season, that will draw to a close within the next five weeks, Elaine Shaw of Northway said: “We have been overwhelmed and are extremely grateful for the support offered by both new and established customers during the strawberry season. The demand for fresh, quality local produce has never been higher and Northway’s development of the Northway Grown produce range is a direct response to consumer demand. As a result of our season successes, we are now beginning work with our members on production planning for 2016, with plans for an expanded production to accommodate both growing stockist and consumer demand.

“We want Northway customers to know that when they see the Northway Grown badge that produce has passed our stringent quality control checks and that ultimately they will be purchasing not only fresh produce but also locally grown produce too and we look forward to launching an expanded the range in an increased number of outlets from May 2016. Already we have some very exciting plans ahead for 2016, during Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and we look forward to working with both new and existing customers again next season.”
