Parade of light up tractors to bring Winterval 2015 to a close

A parade of 13 Tractors festooned with over 30,000 fairy lights will take the 2015 Winterval Festival in Waterford to a close this Wednesday, December 23rd from 5pm.

A procession of decorated and illuminated tractors and other assorted farm equipment will make their way across Rice Bridge in Waterford City assisted by a Garda escort at 5pm. They will traverse along the City’s Quayside travelling along The Mall onto Parnell Street turning onto John Street and New Street taking a right onto Mayors Walk where they will reach Ballybricken as which point they will stop for 30 minutes for all of the excited festivalgoers to take a closer look.

Commenting on the upcoming event organiser of the parade Stuart John Downie said: “We are delighted to bring the tractor parade to Winterval. It’s a sight to behold and we have held this event in Carrick on Suir for the last two years so we know that families in particular really love this spectacle.

“It is the only Christmas tractor parade in the country so it’s a really fantastic opportunity to see this unusual sight. We are honoured that we being offered the opportunity to close the biggest Christmas festival in the country. The parade is being held as a fundraiser for Embrace Farm and donations will be accepted for this great cause on the evening.”

The Winterval festival is open daily until December 23rd and hosts a full offering of over 30 Winterval trail events; 19 of which are free of charge. Festivalgoers can enjoy the wonderful 3D Lightshow ‘It’s a kind of Magic’ include ‘Bad Santa’, an Ice Slide and a live animal crib at Ballybricken Green, a Helter Skelter, a giant free Toy Museum featuring a Star Wars and Transformers exhibition, a Yule Viking Christmas, a Polish Christmas, a free movie theatre showing ‘Elf’, Storytelling at Reginald’s Tower, Elves workshops, a giant Winterval Post Box, a vintage Ferris Wheel and Carousel, Penguins at the Palace and much more.

For visitors wishing to get their skates on the huge Waterford on Ice is on the quayside offering some ice-cold fun and for those wishing to journey through the City trail the Winterval Express and the Horse Drawn Sleigh Stations are the place to head to for a trail trip.
