Northern Ireland’s First Minister Peter Robinson MLA and Chairman of Stormont’s Agriculture Committee William Irwin MLA have congratulated the organisers of the 100th Annual Mullahead Ploughing Match.

First Minister Peter Robinson stated: “This is a fantastic event, showcasing the diversity of our rural community and it was certainly a welcome breath of fresh air for me to get my wellingtons on, get out into the fields and see the ploughing, with all the skills and precision that is required to guide horses and operate a plough – that is multi-tasking at its best. The organisers deserve huge credit for their dedication year on year to make this event the wonderful spectacle that it is.”

Once again the organisers of this prestigious event have put on a great show for the public

William Irwin MLA commented: “Once again the organisers of this prestigious event have put on a great show for the public and the crowds certainly turned out in force to take in the ploughing, tractor pulling and of course the marvellous record breaking attempt for the most horses ploughing in one place at one time – a great achievement!”

He concluded: “Events such as this are vital in our rural calendar and do show the wider public the depth of variety within our rural community and it is always encouraging to see so many businesses that contribute to our agri-economy operating stalls and displays on the day. Well done the team on another memorable event.”
