SINCE farming has been confirmed as the most dangerous profession in Northern Ireland, farmers are increasingly being warned to take care of their safety.
In Northern Ireland last year, 12 people died in farming accidents (75% of the total number killed in workplace accidents in 2012). By following simple advice we can prevent accidents that often have devastating consequences.
To assist with raising awareness on this important issue, Finvoy YFC are holding a Farm Safety event on Saturday 19th January on the farm of Mr J Gamble, Drumlee Road, to bring the message of farm health and safety to all sections of the farming community.
The event will begin with lunch at 11.30am and will then take the form of various talks and demonstrations by different companies and departments relating to farm safety. The main topic will be safety around slurry.
Finvoy would like to take this opportunity to thank all attending organistions for giving up their time, Johnny Gamble for the use of his facilities and to Pamela Campbell for the advertising photosgraphs.
Organisations attending the event are: Rea’s of Finvoy, HSENI, DARD, UFU, Rural Support, McElderry’s, Creagh Concrete and Protec. It is a free event and any donations received will be given to Rural Support. Everyone is welcome to attend.
