The Salty Dog Hotel & Bistro in Bangor is hosting a special event on Saturday 29th November to celebrate the growing craft brewery scene in Northern Ireland.

Many of Northern Ireland’s microbreweries will be represented at The Salty Dog Celebration of Local Ale afternoon, giving guests the chance to sample the very best independently produced beers, ales and stouts under the shelter of specially built marquees in the hotel’s Kitchen Garden on Bangor’s Victoria Road.

Ken Sharp, owner, The Salty Dog said: “There’s such energy in the craft beer sector across Northern Ireland, with some really innovative brewers making fantastic products. Just as we are committed to supporting Northern Ireland produce on our menu, our bar is now stocked full of native craft beers and ales, which we are very proud of.

“There is such a growing movement towards artisan food and drink in Northern Ireland, which is great to see. Anyone coming along to our Celebration of Local Ale will be able to sample the best in local beers ranging from McGraths Irish Ales and stouts made in Craigavon, Yardsman Lager and Belfast Pale Ale from Hercules Brewing Company in Belfast and a range from Pokertree Brewery such as Ghrian Golden Ale brewed in Omagh.

“We hope that anyone who hasn’t already sampled Northern Irish beers and ales will appreciate the fantastic range and distinct flavours our local brewers create. We also want to show how these ales can complement food in an unexpected way, so we’ll be serving free samples of hot dishes from our wood-fired oven to complement them.”

Niall McMullan of Hercules Brewing Company, said, “It’s fantastic to see a venue like The Salty Dog supporting the local craft brewing sector and we’re proud to be involved in this Celebration of Local Ale event.

“Provenance and craftsmanship are more and more important to consumers these days and I believe the craft put into small batch brewing translates into flavour and quality. We hope to see as many people from Bangor and beyond enjoying a taste of home at The Salty Dog.”

The Salty Dog’s Local Ale Showcase will take place from 12noon – 5pm on Saturday 29th November in its outdoor Kitchen Garden. Tickets are not required and full information can be obtained by calling 02891 270696.
