Sharp trade with some exceptional prices at Swatragh

Cattle: Another strong seasonal entry of quality cattle on Monday 30th November sold to a very sharp trade with some exceptional prices, more quality stock is required to meet demand. Heifers selling to £790 for 390kg while bullocks sold to £990 for 490kgs with fat cows sold to £900.

Sample prices: Heifers: Swatragh producer 390kg, £790; 376kg, £680; 454kg, £770; 390kg, £690.

Bullocks: Swatragh Producer 490kg, £990; 580kg, £980; 490kg, £870; Upperlands producer 334kg, £580; 246kg, £545; Maghera producer 366kg,£700; 418kg, £745; Maghera producer 408kg, £770; Cookstown producer 154kg, £450; 162kg, £410.

Sheep: A very strong seasonal entry of 845 sheep at Swatragh on Saturday 28th November witnessed a challenging lamb trade. Several pens of heavy lambs sold well in excess of £71.20 each to a top rate of £72.80. Middleweight lambs sold to £68.40 for 23.5kg while store lambs were excellent again and sold to £53.00 for 16.25kg, ewes sold to £75.00.

Sample prices: Heavyweight lambs: Desertmartin producer 1 lamb 27kg at 72.80 = 270p; Magherafelt producer 9 lambs 26kg at 72.00 =277p; Garvagh producer 5 lambs 25.75kg at 71.50 =278p; Swatragh producer 9 lambs 26.5kg at 71.20 =269p.

Middleweight lambs: Swatragh producer 10 lambs 23.5kg at 68.40 = 291p; Maghera producer 3 lambs 22kg at 65.00 =295p; Maghera producer 22 lambs 22kg at 65.00 =295p; Dungiven producer 11 lambs 22.25kg at 64.50 =290p.

Store lambs: Garvagh producer 16 lambs 16.25kg at 53.00 = 326p; Portglenone producer 8 lambs 18.75kg at 58.80 = 314p; Swatragh producer 12 lambs 17.5kg at 55.00 =3.14p.

Ewes: Cookstown producer 2 Suffolks at 75.00; Kilrea producer 2 Texels at 73.00.
