Sheep continue to sell to a very firm trade at Markethill

An entry of 1680 sheep at Markethill continued to sell in a very firm trade.

The 1480 hoggets sold in a similar trade to the previous week. Heavy hoggets sold to £95 each with a further 17 pens selling in excess of £90 each. Top rate of 365p per kilo was paid for 26 kilos at £95 each. All top quality pens sold from 345p to 363p per kilo. In all, 680 heavy hoggets averaged 25.7 kilos at £88.50 each (344p).

Middleweights sold to 382p per kilo for 22.2 kilos at £85 each for a Draperstown farmer. All suitable pens sold from 355p to 372p per kilo for 21.5 kilos at £80 each. In all, 620 middleweight hoggets averaged 21.8 kilos at £77.80 (357p).

Good quality stores sold from 340p to 374p per kilo for 18.2 kilos at £68 each.

Cull ewes sold to £85 each. Main demand sold from £65 to £83 each. Plainer ewes sold from £35 to £60 each.

In the breeding ring doubles sold to £237 each. Others sold from £200 to £235 each. Singles sold from £125 to £160 each.
