September sees the start of the breeding sales and the members of Castlewellan Blackface Sheep Breeders will once again be presenting somewhere in the region of 1400 quality females as well as 60 plus rams and ram lambs for their annual sale in Hilltown on Wednesday 16th September.

Over the years this sale has deservedly gained a reputation as one of the leading female blackface sales of the Newton Stewart/Lanark type anywhere in Northern Ireland as well a place to buy quality Mule ewe lambs. A feature of this year’s sale is a special entry of ewes and ewe lambs with the dispersal of the well known Milbank flock belonging to Drew Holmes. This is a one off chance to buy well bred quality ewes of all ages from a flock which has been established for more than fifty years.

This year’s sale will follow a different format with a show of shearling rams, ram lambs and aged rams commencing at 11.30am with the sale itself starting at 2pm. The order of sale will be blackface shearling rams followed by ram lambs and aged rams before the sale of the females which will start with mule ewe lambs followed immediately by blackface shearling ewes, blackface ewe lambs and then blackface aged ewes.

The message again this year is get there early especially if you want to get top quality females.
