The Slemish Area WI Carol Service was held on Sunday, 13th December in Killymurris Presbyterian Church.
Guests included Mrs Elizabeth Warden, Chairman of the N Ireland Federation of Women’s Institutes and her husband Alex, Ards Peninsula Area, Mrs Beth Irwin, Federation Vice Chairman and husband Norman, Ranfurly Area, Mrs Muriel Barr, Ballymena representative of Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, and Mr Timothy Gaston, Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Council.
Praise for the nine carols and lessons was led by The Slemish Area Choir, conducted by Mrs Ruth Orr, Cullybackey WI and accompanied on piano by Mrs Elizabeth Patterson, Broughshane WI. The organist for the service was Mrs Betty Caldwell, Glarryford WI. The Offering was in aid of NI Children’s Hospice.
Mrs Sophia Maybin, Slemish Area Executive Member welcomed everyone to the service and Mrs Hilda Stewart of Randalstown WI gave a vote of thanks afterwards in Killymurris Hall, where light refreshments were served by Glarryford WI.
Federation Chairman, Mrs Elizabeth Warden, closed proceedings by saying how delighted she and her husband were to have been able to join with the nine Slemish Area Institutes and congratulated them for long and faithful commitment to the WI organisation, each having on average 61 years of service. She encouraged local community spirit throughout the festive season and wished everyone a Happy Christmas.
