The geology and built heritage of the eastern Sperrins area are being celebrated in two brand new publications launched this week by the Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership (SGLP).

Entitled ‘Spurs of Rock’ and ‘Set in Stone’, the free booklets give a valuable insight into the sights, features and points of interest that can be found in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) as well as information on the history and stories behind some of the best known buildings in the locality.

In addition to the two new booklets, this package includes:

41 Panels containing information on local history, heritage and geology

Eight Recreational walking trails (either upgraded or specially made)

Four Heritage trails (upgraded)

Two Free information booklets featuring walks, history and heritage information

Speaking at the launch, Graham Mawhinney, Chair of SGLP, said: “The Sperrins is an incredibly diverse and interesting area with something to suit all visitors. From adventure sports enthusiasts and walkers to nature and history buffs, there really is something for everyone.

“These new booklets are the perfect addition to our Sperrins Heritage Trails package and we hope locals and visitors alike find them interesting and informative. We are delighted with the final result and believe it is a real reflection of just how much there is to see and do in the Sperrins area.

“Sperrins Gateway Landscape Partnership is delighted to have been able to help promote the range of activities and the natural heritage of the area and our thanks are extended to everyone who has helped make these projects and initiatives a reality.”
