With a large selection of in-lamb ewes, gimmers and empty ewe lambs there will be something on offer to suit all buyers.

Catalogued with the Springhill flock this year is a guest consignment of in-lamb gimmers from the Milestonehill flock bred by Murray Annett, Rathfriland.

Springhill have 21 lots of in-lamb ewes catalogued including a number of mature ewes, whose daughters have been retained in the flock.

Also purchased at the NI Premier sale, Blackstown Yoga, has been used for his length and good gigots while semen from Gailey Yesterday, the top priced lamb at Blessington 2016 has been used for his tremendous size and power. Also included in the list of Springhill service sires are the youngsters Allanfauld Yorkie, and Clinterty Young Prince purchased at the Scottish Premier sale, Lanark where Young Prince’s pen mates sold to an average of 39,000gns and Drumderg Young Gun, chosen for his great length and good skin. Completing the line-up of service sires is Foyleview Wildfire a son of Stainton Victor, purchased in 2015 and retained for his massive size and good gigots.

The Springhill flock have consistently chosen sires to produce top quality tups for the pedigree and commercial trade, and the service sires used in 2016 will certainly endorse this policy. The success of the Springhill breeding policy has been highlighted for over a quarter of a century with their achievements in the flock competitions and show ring as well as the sale of tups, with their ever successful Ram Sale in Omagh Mart each September being the main outlet for rams.

This year’s Springhill ram sale saw a Clewbay Van Gar son realising the top price of 1500gns with the top price shearling ram selling to 1400gns while overall 77 rams sold to an average of £549.

Also catalogued are two pedigree Charollais ewes in-lamb to Mountain View V-Tech, a pedigree Texel tup, giving the potential to breed excellent hybrid sheep. Springhill conclude the sale with an entry of 30 empty ewe lambs many of which are daughters of the most effective breeding ewes in the flock.

The sole guest consignee for 2016 is Milestonehill, with a batch of gimmers in-lamb to the proven stock tups; Botera Wing Man, who was purchased at the NI Premier Sale in 2015, a son of 17,000gns Teiglum Thunder he has produced an excellent batch of both ewe and ram lambs in his first season and the Reserve Champion at Raphoe Sale 2015, Speenogue Weaver, chosen for his tremendous length, skin and carcase, his sons sold to 1300 gns at the Premier sale at Ballymena in 2016. These gimmers come from some the top breeding families within the Milestonehill flock.
