Stronger trade for all classes of sheep at Markethill

An entry of 1210 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday sold in a stronger trade for all classes.

The 650 Spring Lambs sold in a noticeably firmer trade. Heavy lambs sold from £90 to £98 each. Top rate of 393p per kilo was paid for 24.2 kilos @ £95 each. All good pens sold from 350p to 389p per kilo.

Light lambs were in excellent demand with good quality pens selling from 410p to 435p per kilo for 21.5 kilos @ £93.50 each. The entire entry of light lambs averaged 22 kilos @ £91.20 (415p)

Fat hoggets sold to 377p per kilo for 22.3 kilos @ £84 each. Main demand sold from 310p to 365p per kilo.

The 270 cull ewes sold in a very firm trade. Heavy ewes sold from £80 to £94 each. Plainer ewes sold from £60 to £75 each.

Another full yard of Ewes & Lambs sold in an improved demand. Doubles sold to £190 each. Singles sold to £195 each with several more from £150 to £188 each.
