Suffolk Females were in strong demand at the annual show and sale organised by the Northern Ireland Branch at Ballymena Livestock Mart.

The judge for the evening was the NI Branch Chairman Lesley Liggett who awarded Patrick Donnelly of the Donrho flock 1st prize in the ewe lamb class. The Co. Antrim breeder also went on to take the overall champion honours with his Rhaeadr Rhonn sired ewe lamb which went on to sell for 2,000gns to D McKay, Ballymena the highest price of the sale. Patrick went on to take 3rd place in the ewe lamb class with Co. Down breeder Patrick McVerry of the Tullywinney flock taking the second and fourth prize rosettes in the ewe lamb class selling to Timmy Lamont, Co. Antrim for 500gns and A Bowden, Co. Tyrone for 400gns.

The event itself included a dispersal by Co. Tyrone breeders RA & RJ Rea who had a steady trade and William Montgomery’s reduction of the Smiddiehill flock selling ewes to 800gns with a 100% clearance.

Alastair Gault of the renowned Forkins flock took 1st place in the gimmer class and Reserve champion with his Birness Bacardi sired ewe in lamb to Mountford Mustang. This was quickly snapped up by fellow breeder of the Gransha flock, Joe Stewart changing hand for 800gns.

Leitrim gimmers were strong in demand with David and Andrew McNeilly’s second and third prize gimmers in lamb to Birness Brexit being knocked down to Co. Tyrone breeder Colm McAleer and Co. Armagh breeder Philip Kennedy for 800gns respectively.

An eye catching Glenho Glayva bred shearling in lamb to Limestone Will Griggs on Fire which stood fourth in the gimmer class from the Newwells flock of L&D Aiken was snapped up by Co. Down breeder Mark Herron for 1,400gns.
