An entry of 280 beef cattle in Ballymena on Thursday resulted in a terrific trade.

Fat cows sold to 195p for a Lim 680kg at £1326. Fr cows to 120p for 800kg at £960.

The show was kindly sponsored by Alistair Christie and judged by Bren Blaney who awarded first place to Fred Loughridge Armoy for a tremendous pen of lambs which went on to sell for the second top price of £112 per head. The annual show and sale of mule ewe lambs at Ballymena Mart on Tuesday evening saw an increased entry of 2,600 lambs meet an excellent trade with averages up by over £9 per head to level at £95.71 and a top price of £180 per head paid to Graham Loughery for his first prizewinning pen. Leading average in the sale was taken by Jimmy Mills, Killwaughter who averaged £116.47 for 125 lambs offered. The show was kindly judged by John Murphy of Shane’s Castle and sponsored by the Northern Ireland Bluefaced Leicester Club.

A great entry of 2798 sheep in Ballymena resulted in a steady trade. Fat lambs sold to 390p for a pen of 8 Texels 22kg at £86 from R Hunter, Larne and to a top per head of £89.50 for 28 Beltex 23kg presented by F Harbinson, Limavady. Fat ewes sold to £109.
