Top price of £1245 for heifers at Markethill

An entry of 660 cattle at Markethill on Saturday included the largest entry of store bullocks so far this year with 350 steers on offer.

Buyers from throughout Northern Ireland and export agents were in attendance.

HEIFERS: The 200 heifers maintained their recent trade with top quality forward heifers from £195 per 100kg to £217 per 100kg for 566kgs at £1230. Top price £1245 for 614kg (203).

Middleweights sold from £190 per 100k to £215 per 100k for 330kg at £770 at £1075. Lightweight heifers to £233 per 100kg for 330kgs at £770. All quality lightweights from £200 per 100kg to £214 per 100kg. Second quality heifers of all of all weights returned a very firm demand from £170 per 100kg to £185 per 100kg.

BULLOCKS: The 350 bullocks sold in a very good trade with Angus bullocks in particularly good demand to £209 per 100kg for 508kg at £1060 followed by £207 per 100kg for 524kg at £1085. Con cross forward bullocks sold to £1380 for 720kgs (191). Several lots from £1200 to £1350 each. Main demand from £190 per 100kg to £207 per 100kg for 522kgs at £1080.

Suitable middleweight steers sold in an excellent trade to £219 per 100kg for 448kgs at £980. Middleweight Angus bullocks sold in exceptionally firm demand from £200 per 100kg to £209 per 100kg for 480kgs at £1005.

Good quality lightweight steers sold from £200 per 100kg to £232 per 100kg for 334kgs at £775.

Forward Friesian bullocks sold from £135 per 100kg to £161 per 100kg for 556kgs at £895. Top price friesians £920 for £614kgs (150). Middleweight steers sold from £140 per 100kg to £157 per 100kg for 498kgs at £780.
