Trillick and District YFC friends and supporters night

Andrew Little, YFCU vice president was the special guest at Trillick and District YFC’s friends and supporters night. Everyone joined in the YFC pledge after which a comprehensive report of the clubs activities was delivered by club secretary Lauren Vance followed by a very satisfactory treasurer’s report from Gareth Deazley.

In his club leaders report Mark Gibson thanked the parents for their support and challenged members to try at least one new competition next season and to take advantage of the YFCU exchange programme. He also thanked the officebearers – Rachel Gibson Shannen Vance and Gareth and Rebecca Deazley who had spearheaded the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Highlights of Trillick and District’s year included the final events of the 50th anniversary Celebrations – a community ‘Wet Knock-Out’ in May with 22 teams attending and the ‘500 Miles for 50 years’ which was held at Omagh Show in July. The cycle raised over £2,000 for Samaritans Omagh Branch and the Fermanagh Lakeland Special Olympics Group. Club leader Mark Gibson and Lauren also took part in the YFCU 85th anniversary skydive supporting Fields of Life.

Also on a sporting theme members competed in a variety of sporting events organised by the YFCU in conjunction with the YFCU at club, County and as part of the Tyrone teams at Northern Ireland level. Shannen Vance was very pleased to complete a 200 mile cycle as her Duke of Edinburgh Award Gold expedition.

At the Tyrone Efficiency Awards Mark was awarded second club leader and Gareth third treasurer and Peter Graham was declared Tyrone junior member of the year. In the YFCU Ulster Farm Club of the Year Competition Trillick was once again included in the top 10 clubs in Northern Ireland. Trillick & District YFC was also awarded Tyrone Superclub at the County Dinner

Mark Gibson and Bryan McKinley wrote the script for the arts festival production ‘What Happened Barry?’ which was performed by an enthusiastic cast in Craigavon Civic Centre. While not gaining a place at the gala the production went on to win the Tyrone Rosebowl Competition where Mark Gibson was awarded best senior actor. The club choir under the direction of Mrs Beverley Pollock and accompanist Nikki Browne performed at the choir festival with Zara Henderson as soloist.

The Vance family hosted the clubs YFCU exchangee Melanie from Germany and celebrated with her when Germany won the World Cup.

More celebrations commenced when Mark Gibson became the first Trillick member to gain a place on the YFCU European Rally Team and will travel to Austria in August.

Members gaining YFCU Northern Ireland awards this season were Rachel Gibson (first floral art) Nathan and Peter Graham (first and third presentation/demonstration) Peter Graham (third swimming) William Smyth (fifth Stockjudging) and Lauren Vance (second art and craft) The club beach volleyball team were also awarded most heroic failure at the John Bradley Challenge.

In his remarks Andrew Little congratulated the club on their successes throughout the season and outlined the many benefits of fully participating in YFCU life. He also extended best wishes to Mark for the European Rally and wished the club every success for the coming season.

Club members then presented a varied programme of entertainment which was interspersed with photographs of club events prepared by Holly Vance Club PRO. Sketches included ‘2 Policemen and a Little Old Lady’ with Megan Birney, Scott Brunt and Dean McAleer, the ‘Funky Chick’ led by John Armstrong, ‘The Classroom’ with teacher Mark Gibson and very rowdy pupils and ‘What Happened Barry?’, the arts festival and Rosebowl Production. The entertainment concluded with rousing singing from all the club members.

Mark then proposed the vote of thanks to everyone who had assisted the club over the year and gifts were presented to Mr Little, Mrs F Barrett club auditor and Pauline Armstrong. Tea was served and the evening came to a close.
