The Tullylagan House Hotel, Cookstown was the venue recently for members, friends and sponsors of the NI Texel Sheep Breeders Club’s annual dinner dance and awards evening.

Following an excellent meal club chairman Geoffrey Fleck welcomed the members and guests and extended thanks on behalf of the club to the sponsors of the various competitions run throughout the year, namely Ivan Porter and Danske Bank for the sponsorship of the Annual Flock Competition, Volac for the Show Flock Championship and Kevin McAuley, McAuley Multimedia for the annual Photographic Competition.

He called firstly on Alistair Sampson, Volac to present the awards for the Volac Show Championship 2014.

Mr Geoffrey Fleck then called on Mr John Greene, of the Larahirl and Culdaff Flocks, Donegal who judged this year’s Annual Flock Competition to announce the results and present the awards. John thanked all those involved for their warm welcome and hospitality and congratulated members on the excellent quality of stock viewed during his visit. The chairman then presented the Hamill Trophy for the Young Breeder of the Year to Claire Beacom for her work and contribution to the Young Breeders Club.

Geoffrey then presented the Chairman’s Trophy, which is awarded by the chairman each year to a person who provides support to club throughout the year.

This year’s winner was Barbara Strawbridge.

The evening finished 
with a charity raffle and auction led by Mr Jeff Aiken who took to the floor auctioning a number of items in aid of Cancer Focus.
