Very strong seasonal entry of sheep at Swatragh

Sheep: A very strong seasonal entry of 545 sheep at Swatragh on Saturday January 2nd witnessed a much better lamb trade than before Christmas.

Several pens of heavy lambs sold well in excess of £79.50 each to a top rate of £82.00, middleweight lambs sold to £73.80 for 22.5kg while store lambs were excellent again and sold to £58.00 for 17.75kg, ewes sold to £86.00 while ewes and lambs sold to £201.

Sample prices: Heavyweight lambs: Garvagh producer 6 lambs 26.5kg at 82.00 = 309p; Maghera producer 9 lambs 25.75kg at 80.00 =311p; Maghera producer 31 lambs 26.5kg at 80.00 = 302p; Limavady producer 4 lambs 26.25kg at 79.50 = 303p.

Middleweight lambs: Maghera producer 10 lambs 22.5kg at 73.80 = 328p; Upperlands producer 7 lambs 22.25kg at 72.00 = 324p; Kilrea producer 4 lambs 22.75kg at 68.00 = 299p; Garvagh producer 3 lambs 23.5kg at 72.00 =306p.

Store lambs: Kilrea producer 6 lambs 17.75kg at 58.00 = 327p; Garvagh producer 8 lambs 18.75kg at 55.00 = 293p; Dungiven producer 10 lambs 18kg at 54.00 = 3.00p.

Ewes: Coleraine producer 3 Texels at 86.00; Maghera producer 1 Texel at 77.00.
