It was a great day of showing at Lurgan show on Saturday past. Judge for the day was Mr Jack Smyth, Strabane, writes Tara O’Brien.

It was a brilliant day for the Williamson family as their heifer ‘Arianna’ got the title of Commercial Champion. This heifer carried on her good luck in the show ring from Balmoral, where she won light weight heifer, Junior Champion and Reserve Heifer Champion.

The winning streak carried on for the Williamsons as they won the Ulster Bank Pairs class on the day, Pairing ‘Arianna’ with their young steer ‘Hashtag’.

Following closely behind was ‘Paprika’ exhibited by Neill Corrie. This heifer was Reserve Commercial Champion. ‘Paprika’ never stopped there from winning the Beef Heifer/Steer class, then getting Reserve Champion. She also qualified for the Breeding Heifer Final which will be held this August.

Onto the specials classes of the day, Native Champion went to Sam Matchett with his Angus cross calf. This young animal also won the Suckled Calf Born 2015.

The final qualifier for the Breeding Heifer final was Alan Burleigh with his Charolais cross heifer. This heifer was also second to the Champion in her class which was Store Heifer/Steer.
