YFCU members from across Northern Ireland are preparing to compete in the association’s popular public speaking competition which has been sponsored for a number of years by NFU Mutual Insurance Society Limited.
The public speaking heats will take place throughout Northern Ireland this month and members will have the opportunity to compete in two different categories: prepared and impromptu.
In the prepared section, competitors will deliver a pre-prepared speech, chosen from a specified list of topics.
These include: food is too cheap, money makes the world go round, robots are the future, Cecil the Lion, snapchat or no chat?, when my granny was a young farmer, if I was prime minister, hit the diff and pray, Antibiotics-kill or cure? and X Factor, the day the music died.
In the impromptu competition, members are given an unseen topic and have a limited amount of time to structure their speeches and deliver them to the judges.
Speeches are assessed according to platform manner, voice production and on the content and marshalling of facts.
The top competitors from each county will then compete in the finals of the public speaking competition on Thursday 5th November 2015 at Magherafelt High School.
Heats will begin at 6.30pm sharp.
Public speaking heats for counties are as follows:
Co Londonderry, Tuesday 13th October, Magherafelt High School
Co Down and Co Armagh, Thursday 15th October Saintfield High School
Co Antrim, Tuesday 20th October, Cullybackey High School
Co Tyrone and Fermanagh, Wednesday 21st October, Fivemiletown College .
