AFBI potato blight warning

THE Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute has issued a potato blight warning.
The first Infection Period of the year was recorded on 27-28 May, but the dry weather over the weekend was unfavourable for the spread of blight and this is forecast to continue for the next few days.
However, blight was found on Monday (1 June) on a dump near Killyleagh, Co. Down. Growers are therefore advised to check dumps for symptoms and destroy any growth with an approved herbicide. Early crops should be protected with approved fungicides.
