IT’S hard to believe that an idea from one person for a one of event could turn into the successful event that is Ballyward Vintage Rally.

This is the tenth year of this fun filled event hero despite rain, mud, fog, wind and sometimes sunshine. There have been many highlights over the past nine years such as the piano smashing, the huge entries from schools into the colouring competition, the appearance of the rector’s restored Land rover but most of all the satisfaction gained by the organisers seeing happy faces leaving the field.

This year organisers are making a special effort to celebrate the 10th year by producing a souvenir program packed with information and also anniversary rosettes for all entrants. The tractor pulling will be a big feature and the sledge has been further refined and modified into the B.F MK5 having had a Massey Ferguson and a New Holland best pullers in the past the question has been asked where are the John Deere’s? New for this year will be a dog show. Further details of this will appear of this next week - will there be a twist in the tail? Also for the first time there will be a climbing wall with special praise for the first granny who goes to the top. The event have many of the usual events soon such as country music highland dancers the zip wire mini diggers etc. an excellent range of food and refreshments on site and served in the marquee. For the entrants of vintage and classic vehicles admission will be £5 which includes lunch and special 10th anniversary mug. This is the same good value as it was 10 years ago. Hope to see you all on Saturday, 6th October. The venue is the field beside Drumadonnell Primary School on the Rathfriland road, Moneyslane which is on the main Banbridge to Castlewellan road, Co.Down.
