£3m centre for precision farming

THE new National Centre for Precision Farming is to be located at Harper Adams University College.

The Prime Minister announced £1.5 million government funding for the centre recently. Sources local to and associated with Harper Adams, have donated an additional £1.5m. The new centre will open late next year. It will provide a focus for teaching and research in precision farming. 160 new jobs will be created as a result of establishing the centre. Harper Adams is the only place in the UK offering degrees in agricultural engineering.

On Monday, December 10th at 8pm at the Dunadry Hotel, Templepatrick, Dr Tom Norton, senior lecturer in the Engineering Department at Harper Adams, will speak on the scope of precision farming and its application. The meeting is open to all. Harper Adams in Ireland, the association of over 900 Harper graduates in Ireland, and the Institute of Agricultural Engineering are jointly organising the meeting. Fleming-Agri, Newbuildings, Co Londonderry is sponsoring the evening.
