Best in Britain for James McClintock
THE Northern Ireland Kerry Hill Society recently held their annual dinner and awards evening in the Ross Park Hotel Kells. Over 50 members and friends from around the province attended.
Guest of honour was Mr Gwilym Pugh from Wales who judged the flock competition. Local breeders had another successful year in the regional and national finals.
James McClintock from Glenwherry won the Knockavoe Cup for the N.I Kerry Hill Flock of the Year with his outstanding Reidstown Flock. Nationally James received the W.V Davis Bowl when his sheep were judged ‘Top Flock in 11-29 ewes’ category.
James was also awarded the prestigious Cwmberllan Challenge Cup presented by J E Anthony and the Yvonne Brown Tankard when his Reidstown Flock was named Champion Flock in the British Isles for 2012.
James started his Kerry Hill flock at the age of 16 when his father and a neighbour bought him three ewe lambs. From humble beginnings James has built up his Reidstown Flock over the past 12 years to 25 breeding ewes.
James, a joiner by trade, helps out on the family farm and has a keen interest in his pedigree Limousin herd, commercial sheep flock and of course his prize winning Kerry Hills.
Over the years James has gone from strength to strength in the show ring and further developed his stockmanship and sheep breeding skills. In fact two of his Reidstown Rams have been sold to Kerry Hill breeders in Wales where the sheep originated from over 200 years ago.
The Northern Ireland Kerry Hill Sheep Society would like to congratulate James on his great achievement and wish him every success in the future with his Reidstown Flock.
