Top Priced Ewe at the Charollais Female Sale in Dungannon presented by Drew Cowan, selling to Aidan Murphy,Wexford 1900gns

CHAROLLAIS Females met with a keen trade at Dungannon Market recently. Enthusiastic bidding resulting in a virtual clearance, this demand underpinning the continued popularity of the Charollais breed within the sheep industry.

A strong contingent of Southern buyers resulted in a lot of the sheep selling to south of the border. Topping the trade of the day was an in-lamb hogget from the Tullyear Flock of Drew and Stephen Cowan. Sired by Arjane Kukri and with a powerful Logie Durno Finnegan Dam this lot attracted a lot of attention, County Wexford Breeder, Aidan Murphy having to go to 1900gns for this stylish big ended ewe.

Two other Arjane Kukri daughters from the same pen sold for 1000gns. The Tullyear pen averaged 693gns for eighteen. The Artnagullion Flock of William McAllister sold to a top of 1000gns for a Ballyhibbon Kickstart daughter, averaging 683gns for three sold.

The Rockvilla Flock of David and Liz Mawhinney sold their best to Southern Breeder Peter McLaughlin from County Cavan, this big well fleshed ewe sired by Honddu Investigator and out of a Rockvilla Golden Promise daughter selling for 800gns.

In the ewe lamb section it was Jonathan Aiken’s Carnew Flock that attracted the top bid, this big stylish Logie Durno Jackpot daughter selling for 1000gns to County Fermanagh breeder Neal Martin.

George and Jason Booth’s tops was knocked down at 750gns, this Tullyear Krackerjack daughter selling to the Rockvilla Flock of David and Liz Mawhinney; also selling for 750gns was a Gogwell King of Trumphs daughter presented by Craig Brothers, this one going to Aidan Murphy, Wexford.
