Country Fair at Macosquin

UNDOUBTEDLY one of the highlights of the early summer will be the full day of activities at the ‘Country Fair’ organised for the whole community by members of Macosquin Presbyterian Church, to be held at the premises of SRK Equipment, Ardreagh Road, Aghadowey on Saturday, 23 June, running from 12 noon until 5.00 pm, and followed by a Barn Party beginning at 8.00pm.

With “something for everyone” this event promises to be a great day for all the family: there will be a wide range of local craft, garden, farm and baking stalls, a display of vintage vehicles, and opportunity for everyone to walk around and view the extensive site and gardens of hosts, Sam and Betty Kennedy. And plenty of activities have also been specifically arranged for the children, including face-painting, nail art, a Puppet Show and a children’s tractor circuit.

Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon, with traditional teas and traybakes, not to mention burgers, ice-cream, and so much more.

The organising committee are delighted that the fair will be opened by the well-known local cookery writer and TV presenter, Jenny Bristow. Jenny said that she was very much looking forward to meeting up again with her many friends in Macosquin Presbyterian, which was her home congregation as she grew up in the area. Interestingly, the last country fair organised by Macosquin PC, back in the early 1960s, was hosted by Jenny’s parents, Mr and Mrs James King, at their home, Camus House, Aghadowey. On that occasion, the fair was planned as a fund-raising event for the “new” manse. That event, still fondly remembered by many in the locality was a great success, and the present committee, who have been preparing for this coming Saturday for months, are very hopeful that this fair will be just as memorable and successful. All money raised throughout the day will be going towards the major renovations being planned for the church building.

A genuinely warm invitation is given to all to come along to support this event – and have a great time.
