ARTISAN food producers, Abernethy Butter, from Dromara, are now supplying their handmade butter to the Fat Duck in Bray. The Fat Duck, owned by top chef Heston Blumenthal, is one of the most famous restaurants in the world.
Will and Allison Abernethy are a husband and wife team who produce hand churned butter and delicious homemade butter fudge on their farm outside Dromara, County Down.
The recent news that they are to supply three Michelin stared restaurant, The Fat Duck, comes at the end of a fantastic year for the company.
The business has continued to grow and they now supply over 60 shops across Northern Ireland. Their butter has also been added to the menu of a number of top Northern Ireland restaurants including The River Room at the Galgorm Hotel, James Street South and Balloo House. It has also recently been used by up and coming chef Ben Spalding in London.
They also achieved two gold stars at the Great Taste Awards in 2012 and won a bronze award in the dairy category at the Royal Highland Show 2012.
Abernethy Butter was established in 2005 and they now make hundreds of rolls of butter by hand on their farm every day. They also use their butter in their smooth and creamy handmade fudge, which won a one star gold award at the great taste awards in 2011.
The Fat Duck was awarded three Michelin stars in 2004 and in 2005 it was named the best restaurant in the world in the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
The restaurant was opened in 1995 by Heston Blumenthal and has become famous for its ground breaking use of molecular gastronomy and dishes such as bacon and egg ice cream, mock turtle soup and sounds of the sea dish.
Heston Blumenthal has become a household name in recent years with a number of prime time slots on Channel 4 including Heston’s feats, How to cook like Heston and most recently, Heston’s fantastical food.
