Elliott calls for decision on Rose Energy proposals

.

.

ULSTER Unionist MLA Tom Elliott has welcomed confirmation from the Minister of the Environment that a report and a recommendation will be forwarded to him shortly regarding the Rose Energy proposals.

In a statement Mr Elliott said the news that Minister Attwood will soon receive a report and recommendation about the Rose Energy proposals is a welcome step forward.

“I understand that he has had a wide range of conversations with interested parties regarding the proposals, which is vital in any decision making process and helps ensure confidence in the final outcome,” he added.

“I would encourage the minister not to let the matter rest when the documents arrive with him, but rather would urge him to come to a decision about the proposals sooner rather than later. This process has already stretched over a number of years and I think that it is in everyone’s interests for a final decision to be made.

“Many poultry farmers are waiting patiently for this decision and given that Northern Ireland has been getting an EU derogation to dispose of poultry litter in other ways with no guarantee that this will continue it is vital that this matter is progressed.”
