73rd annual ploughing contest gets underway

This major event in the agricultural calendar will be of particular interest to spectators as Northern Ireland’s best ploughmen in convential, reversible, vintage and horse ploughing will compete to represent their country at world and European level.

Visiting ploughmen and judges from the Republic of Ireland will be made most welcome as well as the many spectators who will travel north.

Amongst the visitors will be the Minister for Environment and Agriculture in Northern Ireland. Also present will be the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, who are the main sponsors of the event.

There will be a wide variety of static trade stalls and many exhibitors who will sell their products in the craft marquee.

A special attraction on the Saturday will be the tractor pull competition. Local enthusiasts are welcome to come and see what make of tractor can pull best.

The Young Farmers’Clubs of Ulster will hold the ever popular fencing competition with over 20 teams entered for the event which displays skills very much needed in good farming husbandry.

The local Clydesdale Horse Society will have their own show and competition on the Saturday.

Special attractions for the young children will be a free bouncy castle and display of small animals.
