Castlewellan qualifiers for Dairy Championship Final
As one of the largest regional shows in Northern Ireland, the show also attracted a large turnout of exhibitors with top quality livestock from around the province.
In the dairy ring, Mr Tom Kelly from Drogheda, enjoyed selecting the Castlewellan Show qualifier for the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championships. Tom runs the well-known Monamore Holstein herd, which has produced many successful AI bulls and show-winning cows in recent years.

For his first qualifier, Mr Kelly selected Sunrise Ipod Jenna VG89, from the Sunrise Shorthorn Herd of Ashley Fleming, Seaforde. This second calver has enjoyed a successful show season this year, claiming the Dairy Shorthorn Championship and honourable mention Interbreed at Lurgan Show, and honourable mention Shorthorn at Balmoral. Calved since April, she is currently averaging over 42 litres/day.
Claiming the second Castlewellan qualifying place was Potterswalls BS Glamour VG89, from the Fleming Family’s Jersey herd at Seaforde. This heifer calved in January and is projected to reach 8,000 litres at 5.6% butterfat and 4.6% protein. She finished second in her class at Balmoral this year.
McLarnon Feeds would like to congratulate both qualifiers on securing qualification and wish them every success at the Final of the 2016 McLarnon Feeds/NISA Dairy Cow Championship, to be held this Wednesday 27th July at Clogher Valley Show.
