Comber Farmers' Market celebrates second birthday

Comber Farmers' Market will celebrate its second birthday on Thursday 7 July 2016 at St Mary's Parish Church, the Square, Comber, 9.00am-1.30pm.

While some markets struggle to survive, Comber Farmers’ Market has continued to flourish.

It started in July 2014 with 15 traders and now has 25 traders regularly attending the monthly market.

According to Mayor Deborah Girvan who helps to run the market on behalf of Comber Regeneration Community Partnership the success of the artisan food and plant market is down to the hard work and effort of the volunteers who run the market.

Mayor Girvan said: “There is no doubt that Comber Market would not have survived without the support of the volunteers.

“The Market Committee meets every month to plan and organise the market; the gazebo team get up early at 6.30am on market day to put up the gazebos and return at 1.30pm to take them down; and the ladies of the church catering team bake delicious cakes, traybakes and scones and serve them up on the church hall.

“This is a huge community effort to regenerate Comber by the people of Comber and I would like to thank everyone who has played a role in its success.”

She continued: “To celebrate our birthday, we are planning an extra special market on Thursday 7 July to thank our regular market goers and welcome new customers.

“We are having a free prize hamper draw with products donated by our traders.

“There will be free craft activities for children and a Punch and Judy Show at 11.00am and a magic show at 12.00pm for children. Peppa Pig will also be making an appearance so that children can get a photograph taken with their favourite cartoon character

“Some lucky market goers will be offered a slice of birthday cake and there will be marshmallow top hats for children while stocks last.”

In addition to the regular stalls, two new traders will be joining the market.

Hanna’s Dairy Farm will be selling certified and registered raw (unpasteurised) milk and Twisted Fish will be selling healthy dog treats which are made out of fish skins.
