Down's Syndrome fundraiser

Donaghmore select takes on a Tyrone select on Saturday, September 10 at 6pm in a GAA match raising funds for two Down's Syndrome charities.

All proceeds from the match and lively Meat Feast BB that follows are for Down’s syndrome support groups in Cookstown, Dungannon and Lurgan.

The whole idea began with Gerard O’Neill who wanted to mark Donaghmore’s last championship title, the intermediate, twenty years ago.

“The memories from that day and the way our village celebrated are beyond belief so I wanted to let the younger ones around Donaghmore know us auld fogies deserved a bit of respect!”

The match has received tremendous backing from the Tyrone legends, who will be managed by Eugene McKenna. The Donaghmore team will have Brian Faloon at the helm and both managers have a wealth of talent at their disposal. McKenna can call upon the likes of Fay Devlin, Gerard Cavlan and Chris Lawn, while Faloon has Paul O’Neill, Brian Robinson and Adrian Cush to give the county stars something to worry about.

But the most eye watering clash has to be the potential man marking job Datsun Donaghy will attempt on Peter Canavan. Donaghy, who claims to be from the very heart of Tyrone itself, somewhere outside Rouskey, has said “God” will meet his maker at last”.

Canavan who was not available for comment was rumoured to have said that Donaghy wasn’t even real and was more like a Yeti than a man.

Throw in is at 6pm in Fr Eamonn Devlin Park, Donaghmore, and the whole shebang will head down to McCausland’s in the village for a barbecue and a bit of a boogie.

With Conor Grimes as compare and quality meats donated by leading local suppliers supporters, players and charities alike will have an evening to remember.
